‘Beetle’ By Don Thompson

The wind wanders off somewhere.
Quiet enough now to hear
A beetle scritch across granite,

Pastiche of blues and greens,
And into a crevice.
Safe.

Down there in private, the beetle
Polishes its carapace
Until it glows in the dark.
